Matias Vidal-MacKay signs with Cal Maritime men's soccer

VALLEJO, Calif. – Benicia High School senior Matias Vidal-MacKay is the newest member of Cal Maritime men's soccer after signing with the program, as announced by head coach Mike Carvalho.

"I chose to attend Cal Maritime because of the opportunities and programs that are available for me as a student. Attending Cal Maritime will teach me the discipline, leadership, and decision-making skills that other universities do not offer," said Vidal-MacKay.

The three-sport letterwinner — he also played rugby and swam at Benicia High — played varsity soccer all four years, earned Player of the Game honors four times and led his team in assists as during his sophomore season.

Possessing international playing experience, Vidal-MacKay also competed for Huachipato FC, a club team based in Chile, Global Premier Soccer (Massachusetts) and Solano Surf (California). During his club career, the midfielder earned 2016 Juvenile Champion of chile and NorCal Select U19 honors.

"I loved playing in different countries and experiencing different styles of coaching, tactics and playing with a diverse group of players," Vidal-MacKay added.

Once his undergraduate career at Cal Maritime concludes, he is planning to pursue a career in maritime business.
