Keelhaulers drop homestand opener to Golden Eagles

VALLEJO, Calif. – Alicia Porter led all Keelhaulers with 15 points and 16 rebounds in Thursday's Cal Pac Conference game at PEAC Main Gym, but La Sierra's three-point shooting — it finished with nine field goals from distance compared to the Keelhaulers' two — helped the Golden Eagles secure a 72-42 victory.

"AP has enjoyed a solid year so far, her 15 [points) and 16 [rebounds] tonight is just another example of how consistent she has played for us," said head coach Imhotet Amen-Ra.

"Alina did a really good job early shooting from three. Unfortunately, we were ice cold tonight and she was responsible for both of our three-pointers."

Cal Maritime's 41 rebounds are the third-highest overall total of the season. However, the team allowed LSU to collect 21 offensive rebounds, which led to 22 second chance points and 20 points off turnovers.

"We have five games left, and it boils down to this: how do we want to finish the season? Embry-Riddle is a really tough opponent, we are going to watch film from our previous game and find ways to place ourselves in the best possible position to become successful," Amen-Ra added.

Even though Saturday's series finale against the Eagles is scheduled for 2 p.m., fans are encouraged to arrive to campus early and secure their seats to help the program recognize Alicia Porter and honor Marissa Serrano — two players who are competing in their final home games in a Cal Maritime uniform before graduating this spring.
