VALLEJO, Calif. – For the second time in as many games, Cal Maritime will face a Division II opponent when Menlo visits Bodnar Field for Friday's 4:30 p.m. contest.
This matchup will serve as each team's final league tune-up since the Keelhaulers begin Cal Pac play on September 27, at home, against Simpson with the Oaks beginning their conference schedule on the 26th.
Even though 58 miles separate the campuses, Friday is the third head-to-head matchup in Cal Maritime's recorded history. Menlo took the inaugural game played at Bodnar Field in 2018 and last year's rematch in Atherton.
The Keelhaulers return to their home turf after facing Jessup in their season opener on the 6th, the Oaks followed a season-opening tie by defeating Jessup and dropping last Saturday's game vs. Stanislaus State.
Friday's clash will provide Cal Maritime its final opportunity to make adjustments to the lineup before continuing a season-opening homestand against three Cal Pac opponents: What starts against Simpson will continue on October 3 and 5 against Westcliff and Stanton.
Following that lengthy homestand, women's soccer will play its next four games on the road.
This week's event also provides the Keelhaulers with a vital opportunity to strengthen on-field chemistry and reach peak game shape since everyone in the Cal Pac enters this week with more games under their belt by comparison.
Forced to start workouts later than its conference counterparts — they do not need to worry about hours at sea to fulfill requirements for respective majors, which enables them to start preseason workouts nearly three weeks before the Keelhaulers — Cal Maritime only has one official result to its credit compared to Westcliff's seven, Stanton's six, Simpson's five and Pacific Union's two.
