VALLEJO, Calif. — The second half of the Keelhaulers' Cal Pac slate will commence Thursday night inside PEAC Main Gym against Simpson in this year's 7:30 p.m. series finale.

If the first head-to-head game of the season offers any indication of what will take place in the final game of men's basketball's current three-game homestand, expect a fierce battle since these teams needed overtime to determine a winner in last December's matchup in Redding.

Since that night, Simpson lost six of seven games, including both played at home last week against Saint Katherine and Westcliff. Cal Maritime's fortunes trended in the other direction with the team picking up three wins in its last six played.

Now that return games are taking place between Cal Pac teams, all eyes are on the conference standings since outcomes of games played will ultimately determine the six teams that will battle for the league's postseason tournament title and automatic berth in the NAIA Men's Basketball Championship.

Currently sitting two games outside that postseason threshold, Simpson is one of two teams tied for seventh with one more victory compared to the Keelhaulers; La Sierra enters the week in sixth with to more victories than CSUM.

A three-game road swing will start at a local institution when Cal Maritime heads to UC Merced for Saturday's 7:30 p.m. contest.

Men's basketball's last visit to Merced resulted in a 61-53 victory and provided a preview of last year's postseason matchup in Mesa, one the Bobcats won 42-40 at the buzzer in a low-scoring affair.

With a win, the Keelhaulers will split the regular season series for the second season in a row.
