VALLEJO, Calif. – This weekend's games are crucial for Cal Maritime since it is still in contention for one of six available spots at the Cal Pac's year-end men's basketball tournament. Positive results earned throughout the team's final trip to Southern California, one that includes stops at Saint Katherine Thursday night and Westcliff on Saturday, will bolster the team's postseason chances heading into its final homestand of the season.

This trip will start in an unusual manner since this matchup relocated to MiraCosta College due to unforeseen circumstances involving the Firebirds' home facility. Instead of its normal tip-off time, action will begin two hours at 9 p.m. inside MiraCosta College's gymnasium (building 5200).

After enjoying its six-game win streak, USK will enter this week's league schedule on a three-game slide after dropping recent contests at UC Merced, at home against local rival Westcliff and at Antelope Valley.

With a win, the Keelhaulers will even the all-time series at four and collect its second head-to-head road victory.

Men's basketball will make the short trip up 1-5 for its weekend finale in Irvine against a Westcliff squad currently riding a five-game win streak.

Including Thursday's event versus Pacific Union, the Warriors will face a home-heavy end of the season since five of their final eight will take place in Irvine. By comparison, once Cal Maritime returns to Vallejo, its final six games are split evenly with the last three all taking place on the road.
