Keelhaulers fall to Nelson-Arizona in final regular season game of 2024
PHOENIX – Monday night's game at the Scott Activity Center was one of those games for Cal Maritime where their opponent, Nelson University-Arizona, somehow caught fire and somehow found a way to make their shots even though the Keelhaulers made them work hard to create contested looks at the basket.
Even though the host Warriors shot over 50 percent from the floor each half to defeat CSUM, 123-89, Jamal Frenchwood broke the 20-point threshold for the second game in a row, by shooting 8 of 13 overall and 2 of 3 from three to lead his team in scoring with 20 points.
He was one of four Keelhaulers that scored double figures against the host Warriors: DeAndre Minor was brutally efficient, hitting 8 of 12 attempts from the floor to finish with 16 points; Nick Stone ended his night with 15 points and a team-high seven assists; Jake Matteson nearly posted a double-double by scoring 14 points and collecting a team-high nine rebounds.
Cal Maritime shot 47 percent from the floor in the first half and 51 pct. after halftime and owned the paint by scoring 56 of its points in that area.
This is CSUM's final regular season game of the calendar year since their next matchup, slated for December 28 at UC Davis, is an exhibition game. Men's basketball next game that counts towards its overall standing will take place January 8 at Menlo, in the first of back-to-back contests to open 2025.
