Jamal Frenchwood earns Cal Pac Offensive Player of the Week honors
CASTRO VALLEY, Calif. – An impressive week of performances, including a playoff-preserving effort against La Sierra last Saturday, led to Cal Pac Conference officials bestowing Offensive Player of the Week accolades to senior forward from Newark, California.
Cal Maritime could not mathematically secure a berth at the Cal Pac Men's Basketball Championship last week, the penultimate week of the season, but it could eliminate itself from postseason contention if men's basketball did not secure a victory in Saturday's home game vs. La Sierra.
With this situation serving as the backdrop for the Keelhaulers' final set of league games this season, Frenchwood scored nine of his team's first 15 points in Saturday's game vs. the Golden Eagles to give CSUM the lead for good.
He scored a career-high 24 points that night on 8 of 11 shooting overall, hitting a career-high 5 of 6 shots from three to help Cal Maritime split the season series against LSU.
Two days earlier against Westcliff, he was an efficient 4-for-5 overall and canned all three shots from three. Frenchwood also recorded a team-high three and game-high five assists vs. the Warriors and Golden Eagles, respectively.
For the week, he averaged 18.5 points per game, shot 75 percent overall (12 of 16), 89 percent from three (8-for-9), connected on all five free throw attempts, averaged 4.0 assists per game, a 2:1 assist-to-turnover ratio and 3.5 rebounds per game.
Thursday's 7 p.m. non-conference finale at Lincoln (CA), hosted by Chabot College, is the precursor for Saturday's Senior Night season finale at PEAC Main Gym vs. conference rival Pacific Union. Tipoff for the final game of the season is set for 8:30 p.m., although fans are encouraged to arrive to the facility by 8m p.m. to secure seats for the program's pregame senior celebration.
