Mason Sylvester posts top-20 score at Simpson Spring Invite

VALLEJO, Calif. – Mason Sylvester experienced a strong start to the Simpson Spring Invite by finishing even par through 18 holes, thanks to a back none that included three birdies and only one bogey. On his second tour of Riverview Country Club, he finished 8-over to lead Cal Maritime's contingent as he tied for 20th place with an individual score of 152.

As a team, Cal Maritime finished a talent-laden field ninth overall.

Evan Molina shaved three strokes from his Monday result to end the tournament with an 8-over round of 80; Tyler Dendiu matched his teammate's score by recording an 80 of his own — a five-stroke improvement compared to the previous day.

By shooting 84 on Tuesday, Camden Phillips improved his round-to-round score by a stroke to finish four shots behind his teammate, Dendiu, for the tournament.

Molina's overall score edged Dendiu's by two as the Keelhaulers finished T44, 46th and 48th place on the individual leaderboard.

This tournament opened a busy week of action for Cal Maritime as it will play a total of seven rounds over a 10-day timespan. Once men's golf return to Vallejo, it will battle Soka in a pair of one-day duals Saturday and Sunday at Blue Rock Springs before facing the entire conference at the Cal Pac Showcase, which commences on Monday.

Hosted by CSUM at Eagle Vines in American Canyon, the Cal Pac Showcase is the final tournament before the Cal Pac / Frontier Conference Golf Championship where teams from both leagues will battle for an automatic bid to the NAIA national championship tournament, starting April 14 in Phoenix.
