VALLEJO, Calif. - Cal Maritime welcomed Bushnell University to the friendly confines of Bodnar Field to start the 2024 campaign. The Beacons used two second half goals to defeat the Keelhaulers, 2-1.
In the first half, the Keelhaulers struck first. Just over eight minutes into the match, Luka Bilaver scored the first goal of the season for the Keelhaulers and took a 1-0 lead. The majority of the half was played at an even pace as the Beacons outshot the Keelhaulers, 6-4, and the two teams took two corner kicks apiece.
In the second half, the Beacons tied the match in the 66th minute on a Brady Housley strike. Ian Palma gave the Beacons the lead in the 71st minute at 2-1. Goalkeeper Fabian Garcia had four saves in the half for the Keelhaulers.
William Haberfield got the win for the Beacons and Garcia got the loss for the Keelhaulers. Bushnell outshot Cal Maritime 12-7 and each team had three corner kicks apiece.
The Keelhaulers will continue their homestand on Sunday evening as they take on Pacific Union College at Bodnar Field. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
