Keelhaulers fall 3-1 to Sea Beggars

PASADENA, Calif. – The Keelhaulers started a two match California Pacific Conference road trip to Southern California as they took on Providence Christian College in Pasadena. The Keelhaulers lost 3-1 to the host Sea Beggars. 

In the first half, the Keelhaulers would get on the scoreboard first in the 38th minute as Jose Diaz scored to give the Keelhaulers a 1-0 lead. The lead was short-lived, however, as in the 39th minute, Erick Martinez would score to tie the match at 1-1. The final chance for the Keelhaulers to score came in the 44th minute but Matthew Yoon's shot went just over the crossbar. The two teams would be tied 1-1 at halftime.

In the second half, the Sea Beggars would take the lead for good in the 57th minute on a Graeme Vander Meulen tally to give the Sea Beggars a 2-1 lead. The final chance in the match for the Keelhaulers to score came in the 85th minute but Cade Weatherbie's shot was saved by the Sea Beggars' Mario Trujillo. The Sea Beggars would score their final tally in the 87th minute on a Kaulin Cummins goal.

Trujillo got the win for the Sea Beggars and Fabian Garcia got the loss for the Keelhaulers. The Keelhaulers outshot the Sea Beggars 22-5 and the Keelhaulers had a 8-3 advantage in corner kicks.

The Keelhaulers will wrap up their road trip on Saturday as they take on Soka University in Aliso Viejo. Kickoff is set for 2 pm.
