Keelhaulers go undefeated at CWPA Tournament #1

VALLEJO, Calif. - The Keelhaulers played at PE and Aquatics Center Pool for the first time this season as they hosted the inaugural CWPA Tournament. The tournament featured nine local colleges and universities from all divisions of intercollegiate athletics. The Keelhaulers went 3-0-1 in the four games played.
The Keelhaulers went 1-0-1 on Saturday defeating NCAA Division II member Chico State University 9-7 and tying 8-8 with NCAA Division I member University of San Francisco and on Sunday, the Keelhaulers went 2-0, defeating Stanford University 14-8 and UC Davis 10-4.
On Saturday against Chico State, the Keelhaulers would get on the scoreboard first with 5:03 left in the first quarter on a Kevin Kraatz goal and would not relinquish the lead for the rest of the game as the Keelhaulers won their second match in a row. In the afternoon match against the Dons, the two teams played a back and forth game with neither team leading by more than two goals throughout. The Keelhaulers would take the lead at 8-7 with 3:04 left on a Kevin Kraatz tally but the Dons would tie it with two minutes left. The tie made history as it marked the first tie in program history for the Keelhaulers.
On Sunday, against Stanford, the Keelhaulers jumped out to a 6-0 advantage and never trailed for the rest of the contest. Kevin Kraatz and Riley Kraatz each had hat tricks for the Keelhaulers. In the final game of the tournament against UC Davis, the Keelhaulers would lead by as many as six and won going away 10-4.
Cal Maritime will continue their homestand next weekend as they host the Sierra Pacific Division Championship at PEAC Pool. While the game times are known, the full tournament schedule has yet to be determined.
