VALLEJO, Calif. – Women's basketball fans circled their calendars the moment Cal Maritime announced its 2022-23 schedule, and that day has finally arrived with the Keelhaulers hosting Bethel (KS) in Saturday's 1 p.m. season opener at PEAC Main Gym.

That is the first of six straight games taking place on the team's home court; its homestand will continue on Wednesday with a 5:30 p.m. non-conference matchup against Lincoln (CA).

After starting its season this past Wednesday with a home loss, Bethel will begin its three-game Northern California road tip at Simpson on Friday before heading to Vallejo the following day. Following its matchup against the Keelhaulers, the Threshers will face UC Davis before returning home.

Led by Caryn Yoder with 10 points, 11 of 13 players scored for Bethel in its inaugural game of the season versus Northwestern.

In his second year as Bethel's head coach, Derrick Pringle Jr.'s team is one filled with experience since it included 11 upperclassmen, a total that includes five seniors, and a redshirt sophomore. The other four players on this year's roster are true freshmen.

Saturday's game is the first head-to-head meeting and the debut for three Keelhauler freshmen: guards Anika Carey, Aysia Santos and Myla Scott.

Women's basketball's homestand continues on Wednesday with another first-time opponent, when Lincoln travels from Oakland to Vallejo for a 5:30 p.m. matchup. The Oaklanders dropped their first two games of the season against San Diego Christian, on October 29 in a neutral-site game in Lancaster, and this past Thursday at William Jessup.

Even though Lincoln led 29-28 at halftime of its season opener, SDCC outscored its opponent 20-8 to pick up its first victory of the year. When the Oaklanders visited Rocklin earlier this week, another scoring spree in the third quarter — the Warriors outscored LU 28-12 — led to another positive result for an Oaklander opponent.

Also visiting PEAC Main Gym throughout the team's season-opening homestand are Holy Names (exhibition, Nov. 16), UC Santa Cruz (Nov. 20), Saint Katherine (Dec. 1) and Westcliff (Dec. 3).
