Jaz Novelli named Cal Pac Women’s Basketball Offensive Player of the Week
CASTRO VALLEY, Calif. – An exciting week for Cal Maritime added another chapter on Monday when Cal Pac officials selected Jaz Novelli as its Women's Basketball Offensive Player of the Week.
Novelli is the second player in the program's Cal Pac era to receive this award and the first since Alicia Porter was recognized on December 12, 2022.
By scoring a season-high 29 points for the Keelhaulers last Wednesday, Novelli played a key role in her team's 84-78 victory at Lincoln (CA), CSUM's inaugural head-to-head victory out of the five games played against the Oaklanders.
In addition to leading all players in scoring that night, the Anchorage, Alaska native singlehandedly finished with a game-high eight rebounds — a career-high mark that was one-fifth of her team's total – shot 11 of 19 overall, 5 of 9 from three and hit both of her free throw attempt.
Novelli's 11 field goals made and five threes are new season-high figures.
Responsible for 10 of Cal Maritime's 22 points scored in the third quarter, her three-point shooting fueled CSUM's 9-2 scoring run, which broke a tie at 53, by hitting two of the Keelhaulers' three shots from three during a 1:05 block of time before the period ended.
Following a missed Keelhauler three-pointer, with 36 seconds remaining in the game and CSUM leading by six, her offensive rebound and subsequent jumper from 15 feet, made five seconds later, sealed the victory for CSUM.
Cal Maritime will return home for its next set of games, a brief two-game homestand that starts on December 2 vs. Dominican and concludes three days later against Park Gilbert. Tipoff for both games is 7 p.m. inside PEAC Main Gym.
