MERCED, Calif. – Cal Maritime remained within striking distance of UC Merced in Saturday's Cal Pac Conference game at the Joseph Edward Gallo Recreation & Wellness Center throughout the opening half, but UCM outscored the Keelhaulers by 11 in the third period, which allowed it to pull away and secure a 71-43 victory.
Dylan Fulton and Aysia Santos scored a team-high 15 and 11 points, respectively, to extend their double-figure scoring streaks entering the final two weeks of conference play.
Fulton scored 10 or more points in each of the last five games (and eight of the last nine played) with Santos extending her streak to three (averaging 11.0 ppg during that timespan).
Also aiding the Bobcats' cause was their free throw shooting because, as a team, it finished this series finale by connecting on 14 of 21 opportunities. The Keelhaulers only took six free throws and hit four.
Starting with Thursday's 5:30 p.m. game vs. Westcliff, women's basketball's final three Cal Pac games are at home. La Sierra and Pacific Union will visit PEAC Main Gym on the 15th and 22nd.
