Ciara Kelly makes history against Sea Beggars

PASADENA, Calif. – Cal Maritime opened a two match road trip to Southern California as they took on Providence Christian College in California Pacific Conference play. The Sea Beggars defeated the Keelhaulers 7-2. 

In the first half, the Sea Beggars would get on the scoreboard in the fourth minute as Sutton Denny scored to give the Sea Beggars a 1-0 lead. In the sixth minute, the Sea Beggars would add to their lead as Alexandra Meza scored to give the Sea Beggars a 2-0 lead. In the 38th minute, Denny would score again to give the Sea Beggars a 3-0 lead. The Sea Beggars would score their final tally of the half in the 40th minute as Denny scored to extend the Sea Beggars' lead to 4-0. The Sea Beggars led 4-0 at halftime.

In the second half, Providence Christian would strike first in the 50th minute as Isabella Pecunes would score to extend the Sea Beggars' lead to 5-0. The Keelhaulers would get on the scoreboard in the 52nd minute as Ciara Kelly scored to trim the Sea Beggars' lead to 5-1. Pecunes would score in the 59th minute to extend the Sea Beggars' lead to 6-1. Pecunes would score the Sea Beggars' final tally in the 66th minute. Kelly would score her second of the match in the 85th minute for the final score of the match.

Kelly tied teammate Amanda Carvalho for most goals in a match with two and points in a match with four. Carvalho set the goals and points records in 2021. Kelly also had seven shots which tied her for second in program history for shots in a match. With the seven shots, Kelly also moves into second place in program history in shots attempted in a season (17).

Kate McGowan had 12 saves for the Keelhaulers.

The Keelhaulers will wrap up their California Pacific Conference roadtrip on Saturday as they take on Soka University in Aliso Viejo. Kickoff is set for 4:30 pm
