VALLEJO, Calif. – Forward Alicia Porter nailed 11 shots from the floor and all eight attempts at the stripe in Sunday's non-conference matchup versus UC Santa Cruz to finish with a game-high 31 points, but it was a strong start from the Banana Slugs that ultimately led to a 77-46 loss for the Keelhaulers.
Porter also posted a team-high nine rebounds, Dylan Fulton finished with seven and freshman Myla Scott collected a career-high six boards.
Cal Maritime will enter the Thanksgiving break at 0-4, the Banana Slugs remain undefeated and left PEAC Main Gym with a 5-0 overall record.
Even though CSUM outscored UCSC, 18-12 in the second quarter, the visitors started the game by scoring 13 unanswered until a layup from Porter stopped that scoring run.
The Keelhaulers' season-opening homestand continues Thursday, December 1, when Saint Katherine visits campus for both team's Cal Pac opener. Tipoff is slated for 5:30 p.m. Two days later, women's basketball will host Westcliff, also at 5:30 p.m., before heading to Pacific Union the following week (December 8) for its inaugural road game of the season.
