Women’s basketball enjoys strong start but drops opening game of the weekend vs. UAV

VALLEJO, Calif. – Cal Maritime enjoyed a strong start to Thursday's Cal Pac Conference game at PEAC Main Gym and held a 30-28 lead entering the second period against Antelope Valley, the 2022-23 regular season champions and No. 1 seed entering next week's conference postseason tournament.

Women's basketball remained close throughout the first half, but saw the Pioneers score 30 points in the third quarter, which helped them pull away from CSUM and secure a 109-69 victory.

Alicia Porter finished with a team-high 27 points and 11 rebounds to record her 13th-straight double-double and 20th of the season; Dylan Fulton scored double figures for the sixth game in a row by ending the night with 17 (and eight boards); Kai Kraus added another 14, one point shy of matching her season high.

Cal Maritime will return to PEAC Main Gym on Saturday for its 2022-23 season finale versus La Sierra, a game that is slated to tip-off at 6:30 p.m. Basketball fans are encouraged to arrive to campus by 6 p.m. to secure their seats and help the program honor Porter in a pregame Senior Night ceremony.
