Women’s rugby celebrates its seniors after hosting Saint Mary’s

VALLEJO, Calif. – The first regular season home game in Cal Maritime Women's Rugby history was a memorable and bittersweet one because Saturday's matchup vs. Saint Mary's also marked the final home appearance for the program's graduating student-athletes.

Even though the Gaels won this game by a 50-0 score, a packed Bodnar Field enjoyed every moment of the action and remained long after the contest ended to help the program honor Leeza Bremermann, Kate Dabrow, Nat Pierotti, Madalyn Reynolds and Sophia Torres in a postgame celebration.

Members of the program also bestowed gifts to Grayden Gunner and Cassie Stevens, this year's coaches, for the time and hard work throughout their senior year.

Shortly after that ceremony concluded, the men's rugby team honored its seniors — Mohamed Albalasi, Gunner, Connor Hannon, David Marez, Gavin Murray, Ryan Packard, Roman Portilla, Anthony Solano, Wilson Urkov and Brycen Young — since their game vs. San José State, slated for later that day, was canceled due to the number of players injured and unavailable to compete.

Women's rugby's next game will take place in Moraga, California, at Saint Mary's against UC Santa Cruz.
