Keelhaulers finish fourth at Sierra Pacific Division Championship

VALLEJO, Calif. – Cal Maritime played their first matches at home for the first time in almost two months as they hosted the Sierra Pacific Division Championships. The Keelhaulers played host to three schools from Northern California, including two NCAA Division I schools and one NCAA Division II school.

The Keelhaulers played three matches over the two day tournament. On Saturday, they won against UC Davis (B) 11-9 and lost 12-1 to UC Davis (A). In the third place match on Sunday, the Keelhaulers lost 14-3 to Chico State.

In the early match on Saturday against UC Davis (B), the Keelhaulers would start the match on a 3-0 run, capped by a Lanni Hardin tally with five minutes left in the first period. The Aggies would then score four of the next five goals scored to tie the match at 4-4. The two teams would trade goals for the entire second period. The Aggies would gain their largest lead of the match at 8-6 with 2:04 left in the third period. The Keelhaulers would tie the match at 8-8 with 10 seconds left in the third period on a strike by Hardin. In the fourth period, the Keelhaulers would take the lead for good, at 9-8, on a Ryan Wallace tally with 6:03 left in the period.

In the afternoon match against UC Davis (A), Ryan Wallace would score the lone tally of the match for the Keelhaulers with six minutes left in the second period. Cate Anderson would record eight saves.

On Sunday against Chico State, Meghan Abbott would get the Keelhaulers on the scoreboard with 3:06 left in the first period. The Wildcats led 5-1 at the end of the first period and 7-1 at halftime. Hardin would score the second goal of the match for the Keelhaulers with 6:18 left in the third period. Olivia Larwood would score three minutes later for the final tally of the match for the Keelhaulers.

The Keelhaulers finish their season with a 5-6 record.
