Keelhaulers fall in final game of Southern California trip

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. – Cal Maritime's defense traveled with the team to Golden West College for Saturday's game at Westcliff. It forced 17 turnovers — while committing only 11 — and turned those Warriors miscued into 25 points.

Led by Lawrence Long with a team-high 17 points and Jamal Frenchwood with nine, the Keelhaulers' reserves nearly doubled WU's bench scoring by recording 48 points (the host school finished with 25).

But it was one of those nights for CSUM because despite a strong defensive effort, Westcliff just hit their tough looks and shot 30-for-51 as a team (.588 FG pct.) to hand the Keelhaulers a 78-71 loss to cap their weekend road trip in Southern California.

Cal Maritime will take a brief hiatus from league play to host Nelson (AZ) Thursday night in a game that will tip inside PEAC Main Gym at 7 p.m. Men's basketball dropped the series opener when it traveled to Phoenix and played the Warriors before returning to Vallejo just before Christmas Eve.

Following that game, Cal Maritime will hit the road, albeit briefly, for its Cal Pac rivalry in Angwin against Pacific Union.
